FRENCH LESSONS WITH LILY

FA15_JS6_LILY_HEADER

We took to the Paris boulevards with Lily Aldridge—while shooting the Michael Kors Jet Set 6 campaign—to learn the words that every très chic local is saying on the street. Whether you’re talking fashion or food (both important topics in the City of Light) refer to this 101 guide, and remember to always dress the part.

LESSON #1
BE ROMANCED

GLAM GLOSSARY

Je t’aime:
I love you
Fais un vœu:
Make a wish
Mon copain/Ma copine:
Boyfriend/Girlfriend
Bisous:
Literally means “kisses” and is used to mean lots of love as a greeting signing off a message.

Maybe it’s the lyrical quality of the language, maybe it’s the city’s seductive reputation, but it’s hard not to fall in love when you wander the cobblestone streets of Paris—even on a rainy day. First stop? The famous Pont des Arts: a homage to hearts everywhere and a must-Instagram location, especially when you’re wearing the color of the season.

LESSON #2
STREET CHIC

GLAM GLOSSARY

Coucou:
Hello
À tout à l’heure:
See you later
Ça je kiffe:
I love that
Ça roule ma poule:
Literally means, “That works, chick" and is commonly used to say, "Okay, that works."

When asked to describe French-girl style in 5 words or less, the answer usually goes a little something like: cool, effortless, [insert synonyms for devastatingly chic]. On the surface this stems from an enviable wardrobe featuring luxe basics like that perfect leather jacket and on-point polished brogues, but ultimately it’s her carefree attitude that’s turning heads.

LESSON #3
AT THE TABLE

GLAM GLOSSARY

C’est (trop) bon:
It’s (so) delicious
Miam miam !:
Yum!
À table:
It’s time to eat !
Santé !:
Cheers!

Fact: Paris is a fashion capital, but it’s a fromage (read: cheese) capital too! Savory, sweet and everything in between— whether you’re indulging in an apéritif, afternoon tea or full-on dégustation, the culinary delights are not overrated. Make like a Parisian by dressing in sophisticated neutrals and savoring every, single bite.
