Michael Kors and Vogue China fêted the opening of the interactive exhibit Young China this week with a sophisticated soirée. Following cocktails held in honor of Michael Kors’ first visit to the brand’s new Beijing flagship store, the event kicked off in Pace Beijing’s expansive gallery space. VIP guests, including Vogue China Editor-in-Chief Angelica Cheung and models Ming Xi and Shu Pei, were guided through an exhibition of photographs lensed by famed fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski.
The images, also featured in the December 2015 issue of Vogue China, celebrate six up-and-coming Chinese actresses who embody the brand’s jet set spirit. Yang Mi, Jane Zhang, Xu Lu, Dilireba, Ma Sichun and Jiang Shuying were captured wearing Resort 2016 across both New York and Shanghai.
“This exhibit highlights six beautiful young women on the rise who are embracing this idea of jet set and making it entirely their own,” said Kors of the photos.
Guests then flowed into a second space, which featured Marco Maccapani’s digital interpretation of glamorous destinations inspired by Michael Kors, using Lubomirski’s images as an artistic springboard.
“The content is whimsical, fun and lighthearted, designed in a folding, pop up book context to give it an engaging sense of whimsy,” said Maccapani of the exhibit. “The juxtaposition of a very classic exhibition display of Alexi's still images in the arrivals room, to this very digital and animated interpretation within the larger exhibition, gives the event a feeling of video art meets fashion.”
The evening was capped off with a party within Pace Beijing, where guests mingled to music mixed by DJ Harley Viera-Newton and DJ twins Arthur and Thomas Bray.
